YOGA

Thousands of years ago, the ancient yogis lived in the forest, the mountains, and the caves of India. They observed their environment, and saw how the animals and nature moved in perfect harmony. They imitated the movements of the animals, the trees, the mountains, and even the movements of the stars, and created a wonderful technique that is called YOGA.

Yoga teaches us that happiness is our natural state. When we are out of balance, we do not feel this happiness. With the help of yoga poses, breathing exercises, focusing within, we bring back this harmony to our body and mind and come back to the natural state of happiness.

_YOGA_

Benefits:

Yoga helps children to develop flexibility and strength in their bodies and peace of mind. Yoga improves focus, memory, self-esteem, academic performance, and classroom behaviour, and reduces anxiety and stress in children.

YOGIC BREATHING

Yogic breathing, or pranayama, refers to conscious and controlled breathing for purification, mental focus, rejuvenation, and healing. Pranayama controls, cultivates, and modifies the amount, quality, flow, and direction of vital energy in the body.

When our vital energy flow is restricted, we may experience a lack of focus and negative emotions like anxiety, fear, worry, tension, depression, anger, and grief. When it is open and flowing freely and smoothly, the mind becomes calm, focused, happy, positive, and enthusiastic.

_PRANAYAMA_

Benefits:

Yogic Breathing releases us from any unproductive fixations on stubborn problems.

By breathing effectively and fully using the breath through yogic techniques, we feel more energised, more relaxed and healthier. By awakening prana in the body we bring the free flow of inspiration.

TETE-A-TETE

CONVERSATION WITHOUT WORDS

Yulia and Dorota are visual artists. Wordlessly, they start by drawing a dot in their palm, then slowly a white line on their arm. They build silent interactions with coloured pencils, playfully, without words, encouraging children to draw lines and dots on themselves and on each other. Silent sensory communication arise, in which the colours

and lines become a language between the participants.

The drawing tools are eco-cosmetic pencils.

What children learn:

Trust and care; practice with colours and shapes; practice looking carefully at something and concentrating together; learn about their own body; gain sensory experiences with materials and colours; practice with creative skills; practice an open and investigative attitude; learn about feelings of oneself and the other; develop their imagination.

SOFT CREATURES

A JOURNEY INTO THE WORLD OF SOFT IMAGINARY CREATURES

When the music starts Dorota and Yulia introduce abstract soft sculptures in movement and interacting with them in different ways.

At some point each child gets a creature and is invited to dance. Children explore their tactility, weight and form and exchange them with each other. The diverse tempo of music creates the dynamics in movement. The culmination of the process is a collective massage through soft sculptures. Everyone is welcome to experience it.

Soft sculptures are made from organic fabrics varying from hemp to cotton velour, and fillings: millet, buckwheat, spelt husks and cherry pits. Some of the small sculptures with cherry pits create sounds.

What children learn:

Practice with balance and rhythm; develop movement skills; activate sensory perceptions; awaken imagination; build the trust; practice interaction skills; practice an open and investigative attitude; learn about feelings of oneself and the other

DAY COLLECTIVE

DAY Collective is an artist duo consisting of Dorota Radzimirska and Yulia Ratman, based in Amsterdam. Their art practice involves participatory performances and tactile forms, such as soft sculptures and intuitive drawings for both children as well as adults. It manifests the power of consciousness and aims to cultivate spirit. Since November 2022 they have collaborated with Kleintje Kunst foundation.
Each week they give multiple performances at schools and after school programs for children from 2-11 years old.

Through wordless playful performative gatherings that challenge the common ways of being together they intend to open up the space where one can be vulnerable and appreciated and where affirmative energy is being generated. Here the narrative evolves during the process, from within. Through these intimate embodied experiences and tactile forms, they activate the senses, intuition and imagination of the participants so as to eliminate pre-constructed behaviours and beliefs.

Their works were supported by Dutch national fund for artists Mondriaan Fund; Amsterdam Fund for Art and Prince Bernhard Fund for women artists.

TESTIMONIALS

For me, the beauty of the Tete-a-Tete project lies in its simplicity, in returning to childhood, exercising myself and my openness through poetry and abstraction, leaving ready- made structures and rules. Tete-a-tete is a unique way to break out of an oppressive and judgmental system into a more fluid world of “not-knowing”, reflecting by being here and now with your skin, colors, shapes and open eyes... to be able to lightly interpret many interactions and let others do the same... —

- Malgorzata Rey, the Netherlands, for the performance Tete-a-Tete by DAY Collective

'Iva’s yoga and pranayama classes are a joy to attend. She displays a true joy for life and this shines through in how she conducts her courses. Her international background certainly adds to the experience and one comes away refreshed and uplifted from her teachings'
